And It’s Goodbye From Her…

Updated 31st July – I couldn’t do it – if anyone is still interested (?) I’m at the Finca – yes Jo you were right!

Well, I started the Catalan Garden blog not really knowing what a blog was.  And, I must say I thoroughly enjoyed my rambling and interacting with (oddly often Welsh) gardeners, expats and other mountain dwellers.  I liked promising myself all the great organised things I would do, and having to follow through because it was written down in pixels on a server somewhere.  I enjoy boasting about my successes and admitting my failures (tiny potato anyone?).  But, alas, I no longer have time for the kind of epic waffling I enjoyed so much at the beginning.

Big D and I are trying very hard to keep ourselves living on a Catalan mountainside.  We spend little but we do need some money and the Internet appears to be our future.  Rather than let this site dwindle away into nothingness we thought we would use it.  You see, for some reason known only to the bots at google, this site actually has quite a decent page rank.  Probably due to the numerous mentions of manure and wellies – a combination particularly searched for in Germany (I don’t get it either).

Anyway I digress (again).  The key point is by the time you come to the site it will probably have changed.  Catalan Gardener’s blogging days are over.  Big D is taking charge and moving things in a completely new direction.  He’ll be looking into Outdoor Garden Furniture and other costly items in a bid to make this blog pay its own way.

I guess I’ll be back blogging sometime – it’s fun.  But for now, with no time for it, let’s hope the site can feed us instead!  The site will completely alter with a big re-design and complete change of focus; delete us from your readers now…  Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

As I guess the blogroll will be gone and just coz I’ve enjoyed our little chats let me say “Goodbye” particularly to Di, one of the Crumblies (the first visitor to my little site), Dennis because he’s a Vizla,  Jan who’s so close yet so far over the horizon, Jo who makes me a little homesick sometimes (not when she’s stuck in the mud though) and Stoney (who made me realise what blogging was and really does have fantastic hats), Jeni who never puts me off my meat – sorry :) and the lot in Portugal (who’s ideas I sometimes steal – great solar oven!).  Chaiselongue, Jeanne and more…

I’ll be lurking around the blogosphere when I get a moment, but I guess I’ll need to invent a new pseudonym or actually stop hiding behind alter-egos.  Anyway this is the Catalan Gardener signing out!

Adios amigos!

    Oh I’ll miss you! I can understand why you’re altering things though, but I’ve really enjoyed your posts… yes, so near and yet so far, a whole mountain range between us. But that’s part of why I enjoyed your blogging, because you’re in the same neck of the woods, living a very similar lifestyle with similar problems. A month or so ago we went to view a house in Pauls (unsuitable) and I thought about you then as you can’t have been that far away. If we’d have known where and which track we’d have called for a cuppa! Good luck with everything!

  2. Ooo – you were really close – would’ve been good to say hi – maybe next time!

    @catalan gardener
    We’re a bit worried about you – hope you’re not in any danger from the fire around Horta de St Joan. It’s been burning for two days now, this wind is not helping, and we have the Bombers flying over constantly. Hope you’re both ok.

  7. Hi Jan, All fine but we can smell the fire which is a bit worrying. Looked on TV3 and seems very bad. Fingers crossed the winds stay calmer as several bombers have already died trying to get it under control.

    Adios!

    Sorry to hear you’re closing up shop, though I hope the new one performs as well as you hope: and better!

    Sadly, thanks to the typical Welsh summer rain (you know the type, heavier and wetter than the winter rain), I’m still knee-deep in mud… some things never change … unless you move to a distant mountain!

    Best of luck – my money is on a new blog by winter :)

    Sorry to hear you’re closing down the blog. I enjoyed my once monthly visits—it was a bit like popping over to the neighbour for a cup of flour and then finding several hours had gone by. Let me know if you pop up somewhere else.

    And I’ll have to see if I can find a new hat…
