My Wellies Don’t Work But the Potatoes are Happy

I guess the title says it all.  It’s been hammering it down all day.  The cisterna under the living room is filling up nicely.  Which is a positive to lift my spirits after a fortnight of decidedly dubious weather.

I ventured out with the three dogs of doom who are VERY mental at the mo due to too much time spent housebound.  But alas my wellies don’t work and my toes got soaked.

BigD isn’t being too supportive so I’m afraid the blog gets the brunt of my grumpiness!

On the plus side – the potatoes look like UK grown spuds not the usual plants we have here.  They are in a nice, damp, shady spot which probably helps too.  They are loving the rain and the cloud and the chill to the air.  Bless’em!

If you enjoy the site why not make your Amazon purchases through these US or UK Amazon links? It costs you nothing more and means we can buy some more seeds!

Goodness, you need some wellies that work in this weather! Our dog’s fine if he’s in the house all the time, he just goes to sleep! But it’s not good for him.

  3. Ah Jan I remember life with just one more mature dog – the peace – the tranquility… Now we have three girls under two. They’re all to big and have way too much energy.

But, when they’re not making me shout, they’re making me smile!

On this side of the Pyrenees, the French side, my vegetable garden is positively singing, and so are the weeds. Share your grumpiness, I ‘love’ weeding in the rain.
Is this winter ever going to end?
Mind you, give me two months and I’ll be grumping about watering every nigt and watching my lovely veggies slowly fry.
Our three dogs bounce from sulky sleeping to manic runninga round the fields in breaks between the rain.

Would you believe I don’t even own a pair of Wellies? (I know, what kind of gardener are you? I can only say: American to the core). I don my hiking boots, the rugged ones with the lug sole, and hope I remember to take them off at the back door…otherwise the next task of the day is cleaning the house.

Good luck with the potatoes. I’ve never had luck with them, but haven’t yet tried them here in Virginia. Our root crops look good though – the onions in particular are vigorous.

Enjoy the Equinox rains (which is what the old timers around here call them). Come July we’ll by praying for rain again!

  6. We’ve had some AWFUL rain in the last week. Weekend before last I had never seen rain like what we had – it rained for 22 hours straight. The roads were rivers, leaks everywhere – really it was quite something else!
Sun was out yesterday though so I hope it shines for you today.
    :)
